Position: EHS Co-op
Primary Location: Edmonton, CA
Schedule: Full time hourly
Reports To: EHS Regional Manager

 

Compensation: $22 - $29 per hour. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location.   The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position.   Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process.

About This Role and You 

 

This position assists the EHS team within Alberta with their daily activities. Travelling is required to the plants located in Alberta (Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, and Calgary) to provide EHS support. The focus will be on assisting EHS Managers with documentation, attending or leading meetings, safety improvements, and learning operations.

 

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering or Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field
  • Duration: 4-month term, with the possibility of extension to 8 months
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of EHS regulations, management systems, regulatory agencies, and industry trends. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to analyze information, create presentations, and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines. Willingness to travel within Alberta.
  • Nice to Have: French language proficiency

Responsibilities

  • Interfaces with site personnel to identify hazards and assist EHS Manager in developing and implementing corrective/improvement measures.
  • Audit fall protection permits, confined space permits, and safe work permits to assess compliance and identify gaps.
  • Participation in incident investigations/safety audits and assist EHS Manager in developing and implementing corrective/improvement measures.
  • Support industrial hygiene program at the site and assist in achieving training compliance.
  • Work with EHS Manager and site personnel to conduct job task analysis.
  • Support Chemtrade Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team in implementing Responsible Care program at Chemtrade facilities in their assigned location(s). This includes maintaining site management systems (e.g. policies, procedures, standards, guidelines etc.) and Action Item Database and EHS Compliance Calendar including routine reporting and audits.
  • Promotes proactive safety participation by all employees and ensures injuries, illnesses, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported.
  • Other duties as assigned to support EHS department’s goals and objectives.
