Position: Utility/ Loader

Primary Location: Brandon, MB

Shift: 5-day work week, Monday to Friday, Occasional overtime on evenings and weekends may be required.

Reports To: Plant Manager

Compensation: $$36 + benefits

The CAD hourly rate for this position is $36 + benefits. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location. The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Please note that the compensation details listed in the US roles postings reflect the hourly rate only, and do not include benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives such as overtime and shift premiums.

 

About This Position and About You

 

This job is diverse in the mechanical ability to perform general plant operator duties. Work includes tank truck and railcar vessel opening, loading, and unloading, operation of pumps, piping, valves and general plant upkeep and maintenance. This job requires climbing stairs and ladders and lifting (within OSHA guidelines). This job consists of outside elements where radiant heat or cold is normal work environment, and rotating shifts.

 

Qualification 

Knowledge

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Competencies

  • Relevant experience in a plant environment performing similar duties is preferred.
  • Ability to use computer effectively, Microsoft programs, maintenance management system, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer’s literature, diagrams or schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform typical operations requirements such as truck loading and unloading, railcar loading and unloading, connecting/disconnecting hoses, operating valves, troubleshooting equipment/operational problems and operating plant equipment as needed.
  • Replacement of nuts and bolts in pipe flanges ranging in size from 1” - 48” diameter flanges.
  • Operation of the following mobile equipment: Front end loader, Track mobile, Forklifts, and other mobile equipment.
  • Cleaning, sweeping, tool room and warehouse inventory, trash removal, digging, weed spraying, shoveling, fire watch and confined space hole attendance/entrant, other duties assigned by Supervisor.
  • Physical capability of performing tasks in 100-degree ambient temperatures while wearing Protective Personal
  • Protection such as Acid-Resistant approved PVC rain suit (topcoat, bottom pants, rubber boots, gloves, and face shield) and Respirators.
  • Must be able to work scheduled rotating 12 hr. shifts with intermittent 14 – 16-hour days for emergency operations/repairs.
  • Maintain weekly timesheets in accurate format.
  • Follow all plant Rules & Regulations including lack of tardiness and absenteeism.
  • Be able to comply with all plant safety rules such as perform tasks utilizing all PPE; maintain and document PPE condition.
  • Following all plant safety guidelines such as confined space; high work; management of change; hot work; and operating procedures.

 Physical Conditions

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Employee must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination and endurance.
  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Employee is required to climb multi-level stairs/ladders to perform his duties.
  • Employees will be required to wear site designated PPE at all times which includes but not limited to, hard hats, steel toe cap boots, safety specs , safety shields, coveralls, PVC acid resistant suits, hearing protection and an assortment of hand protection.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
  • Must be physically capable of occasionally spending long hours sitting in an office environment.
  • Must be “fit for all the above duties”.

Work Environment 

Must be able to perform under the following conditions:

  • Access work in awkward or confining workspaces.
  • Work in elevated places.
  • Work in outdoor environment.
  • Work in noisy environment.
  • Work in areas that are dusty and have some odor from chemicals and etc.
  • Safety is a job requirement.
  • Able to work in Adverse Weather Conditions.
