Position: Chemical Operator 

Primary Location: Barnet, British Columbia  

Shift:  Monday to Friday – 40 hours – Morning and afternoon shifts- overtime

Reports To: Plant Manager 

Compensation: $29/hr - $32/hr + benefits

The CAD hourly rate for this position is $29/hr - $32/hr + benefits. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location. The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Please note that the compensation details listed in the Canadian roles postings reflect the hourly rate only, and do not include benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives such as overtime and shift premiums.

About This Position and About You 

 

Support the plant by completing all required general chemical operator duties and responsibilities.

 

In This Role, You Will:

  • Produce Alum according to Chemtrade Standards and quality procedures
  • Load Product into truck loading system, transfer product as required
  • Perform pre-start safety and operating checks and operate mobile equipment such as front end loader, skid steer loader, scissor lift, forklift
  • Operate and maintain process equipment critical to operating plant
  • Perform general maintenance and equipment installation when maintenance crew is not available
  • Complete and maintain safety, quality, and ISO documentation and records
  • Coordinate production and maintenance schedules with Plant Supervisor
  • Perform routine chemical analysis of products as required
  • Perform general laboratory analysis and calculations required to manufacture product. load trucks and tanks, and make batch corrections
  • Load tank trucks with product.
  • Maintain plant cleanliness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A Successful Candidate Has:

Knowledge

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2-3 years general industrial maintenance experience to include: pipe fitting, pump repair, and pump installation
  • Experience operating a forklift, boom truck, front-end loader and other heavy equipment
  • Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) experience preferred
  • Forklift training and experience preferred
  • First aid certification preferred.

Competencies

  • Must be able to perform general chemical analysis skills – including bench tests, hydrometer use, titration analysis
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with a minimum of supervision, is highly motivated, energetic, and enjoys working as part of a team

Physical Demands/ Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Employees are frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employees are occasionally required to climb stairs/ladders (including vertical)
  • Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
  • Must be physically capable of spending long hours sitting in an office environment.
  • Must be “fit for duty”.

Work Environment

Must be able to perform under the following conditions:

  • Working in awkward or confining workspaces.
  • Work in elevated places.
  • Work in an outdoor environment.
  • Work in noisy environments.
  • Work in areas that are dusty and have some odor from chemicals and etc.
  • Safety is a job requirement.
  • Able to work in Adverse Weather Conditions.
