Position: Co-op - Tax Department 

Primary Location: Toronto, ON or Parsippany, NJ 

Schedule: Full time hourly

Reports To: Senior Tax Manager

 

Compensation: $18-$21 per hour. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location.   The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position.   Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process.

About This Role and About You

Reporting to the Senior Tax Manager, this co-op position will present the successful candidate enrolled in an Accounting/Tax program. With this position comes the opportunity to work in a professional setting, learn how to meet strict deadlines, improve a variety of technical computer skills, and collaborate with a team of supportive and friendly individuals while also learning how to work independently. This role requires professionalism, confidentiality, flexibility to accept new tasks and good time management skills.

 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in college or university majoring in Accounting or Finance
  • Strong computer skills in most Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, accurate and ability to work within established deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and integrity
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Apply confidentiality and customer service focused principles at all times
  • Proficiency in data analysis and automation using Excel is an asset

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns
  • Support tax provision calculations and compliance tasks
  • Perform tax research and summarize findings for team use
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts related to tax
  • Prepare and organize workpapers and supporting documentation
  • Assist in responding to tax notices and audit requests
  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as needed
