Position: Manager, Corporate Projects
Primary Location: Home Based - Western Canada (30% travel)
Reports to: Corporate Project Director
Compensation: $190-200,000.00 CDN + Bonus and Benefits (salaried, exempt)

About this Role and About You
The Manager, Corporate Projects, Western Canada is accountable for overseeing and delivering the capital and expense project portfolio (approximately $50M CAD) for multiple sites across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia, including Electrochemical, WaterChem, and SPPC facilities. This role holds strategic responsibility for identifying and prioritizing project opportunities, leading a high-performing team of Project Engineers, and ensuring safe and efficient project execution from concept to completion.
Success in this role hinges on strong leadership, effective stakeholder collaboration, and excellence in project management practices, all while maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and cost efficiency.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (required).
• 15+ years of experience in refinery, chemical plant, or related heavy industrial environments with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
• Proven track record in capital project management, from front-end design through construction and commissioning.
• Experience with chemical plant engineering, equipment design, and installation, piping, pumping, and materials handling systems.
Technical & Leadership Competencies
• Strong project management skills with experience overseeing a capital portfolio of comparable scale (up to $50M CAD).
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) for interfacing with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Robust organizational skills with attention to detail; able to juggle multiple priorities effectively.
• Proficiency in engineering software and MS Office Suite.
• Solid understanding of relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASTM, ASME).
Desired Skills & Experience
• Background in construction/fabrication processes and vendor management.
• Proficiency for conceptual design and project scoping.
• Knowledge of materials of construction/corrosion, pneumatic systems, and mechanical integrity.
• Familiarity with Responsible Care 14001 or ISO 14001 frameworks.

Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Management
· Lead the Western Canada corporate project portfolio, aligning project priorities with overall business objectives and operational needs.
· Develop and manage annual and long-term capital plans, including budget forecasting, resource allocation, and project scheduling.
· Collaborate with senior leadership and operations teams to identify opportunities that enhance production efficiency, reliability, and growth.
Team Leadership & People Management
· Build, develop, and mentor a diverse team of Project Engineers, ensuring they have clear goals, adequate resources, and professional development opportunities.
· Foster a high-performance culture that encourages innovation, ownership, and continuous learning.
· Provide coaching and performance feedback, ensuring alignment with corporate values and EHS standards.
Project Execution & Construction Management Oversight (60% of Role)
· Oversee end-to-end project execution for multiple concurrent capital projects, typically ranging from $10K to $2M each, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
· Evaluate and approve project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and resource plans in collaboration with site leaders and external partners.
· Leverage best practices in engineering and construction management, ensuring strict compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
Capital Planning & Budget Development (10% of Role)
· Develop and maintain project control systems to track performance metrics such as schedule, cost, and quality.
· Prepare regular reporting on capital spending, project status, and risk mitigation strategies for leadership review.
Management of Direct Reports (20% of Role)
· Ensure Project Engineers and supporting staff have clear roles and responsibilities.
· Set performance targets, conduct performance evaluations, and implement professional development plans.
· Drive collaborative problem-solving and knowledge sharing across the team.
Other Duties (10% of Role)
· Represent the organization in stakeholder meetings (contractors, consultants, community partners) as required.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives, including reliability-centered maintenance and process optimization.
