Position: Director, Internal Audit

Primary Location: Toronto, Ontario

Shift: Salaried 

Reports to: Vice President, Corporate Finance 

Compensation: $175,000 - $185,000 CAD + Benefits + Bonus

Salaried rates are determined by role, level, and location. The salaried rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Please note that the compensation details listed in the US roles postings reflect the hourly rate only, and do not include benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives such as overtime and shift premiums.

About this Role and About You

 

The Director, Internal Audit is responsible for managing the Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) program as well as audits beyond the ICFR program. They develop annual audit plans, design internal control tests and assess the results. The Director holds quarterly meetings to present findings to the CEO and CFO. They also present findings to the Audit Committee quarterly. The Director will ensure that the planning, execution, and reporting is carried out efficiently and effectively. Responsibilities include other areas of internal control outside of ICFR, including various policies and procedures, the implementation of control improvements and communicating changes to affected functions.  The incumbent will be an integral part of the Corporate Finance Function of a growing public entity in a dynamic environment.

 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in business, finance, or a related discipline
  • Holds one or more of CPA, ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CIA, CISA, CISM/CISSP designations
  • 5-10 years of internal controls/internal audit experience post CPA qualification
  • Public company experience, a strong asset
  • Knowledge of SOX, an asset
  • Exceptional MS Office Suite and accounting software knowledge (SAP an Asset)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, initiative and ability to multi-task
  • Good time management skills, enabling completion of responsibilities within deadlines
  • Time requirements may include overtime

 

Responsibilities

  • Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) – 40%
    • Manage the Internal Controls over Financial Reporting program to ensure compliance with COSO framework.
    • Develop the annual audit plan, including testing plan and assess design effectiveness.
    • Oversee and review testing performed by other finance department staff.
    • Identify and recommend solutions for control improvement opportunities including optimization of controls environment.
    • Chair meetings with the CEO and CFO on a quarterly basis to present findings.
    •  
    • Present results of internal control testing to the Audit Committee on a quarterly basis.
    • Maintain a collaborative and constructive relationship with external auditors to ensure alignment of risk assessments and to maximize efficiency.
  • Internal Audit (Non-ICFR) – 30%
    • Develop an annual non-ICFR audit program tailored to Chemtrade’s objectives, risks and control environment to enhance Chemtrade’s risk management, mitigation, control process and overall compliance and governance and obtain senior management alignment and approval thereof by the Audit Committee.
    • Ensure audit objectives are specific, measurable and relevant. Develop appropriate audit procedures in accordance with applicable standards.
    • Develop and Implement additional audit procedures related to ESG reporting to ensure compliance with ISSB standards.
    • Manage the execution of the Internal Audit program which would include capital project audits, plant spending audits, corporate procurement audits and inventory audits as well as Chemtrade’s compliance program in relation to key policies such as the Supplier Code of Conduct including appropriate reporting, opportunities for improvement and ensure monitoring of remediation and effectiveness thereof.
  • Risk Management – 10%
    • Participate in the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program including overall enterprise risk assessments, risk identification and monitoring of key enterprise risks, including by providing objective assurance, advice and insights to ensure effectiveness of identification, assessment, monitoring and mitigation of risks in order to strengthen Chemtrade’s risk management program and enhance its resilience to emerging threats and opportunities. 
  • Implement Control Improvements – 15%
    • Present control improvement opportunities identified to process stakeholders
    • Collaborate with process stakeholders to determine solutions that provide value by improving operational efficiencies, reduce costs and mitigates risk
    • Communicate control changes to affected functions/groups
    • Validate control improvements post implementation
  •  Special Projects/Adhoc Reporting – 5%
    • Participate in special projects/adhoc advisory roles and reporting as requested.
