Position: Process Operator

Primary Location: Saskatoon, SK

Shift:  40 hours per week - 6 month contract position

Reports To: Plant Manager                          

Compensation: $28.00 - $32.00

The CAD hourly rate for this position is $28.00 - $32.00. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location. The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Please note that the compensation details listed in the US roles postings reflect the hourly rate only, and do not include benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives such as overtime and shift premiums.

About This Position and About You 

Operate the Saskatoon production facilities, ensuring that it is operated in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner while meeting Safety, Environmental, Responsible Care (RC14001), and Quality standards (ISO9001). Complete day to day administrative tasks (create Bills of Lading, Inventory Control, etc.) and other tasks as assigned. Take part in writing, training, updating site standards and procedures as well as being an active participant in other training programs. This is a temporary 6-month contract role.

 

Qualification 

Knowledge

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's license

Competencies

  • Good computer word-processing and spread sheet skills.
  • Must have strong safety, customer, and team orientation.
  • Self-starter
  • Must be able to work nights / weekends.  

Responsibilities

  • Safety Actively participate in site Safety meetings.
  • Actively participate in JSAs and Site HAZOP’s Report & Record all near hits, taking corrective action where necessary.
  • Follow all site procedures.
  • Ensure all contractors have received orientation training, work permits are filled out and site safety rules are followed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Product Loading Load packaged and bulk Aluminum Sulfate, Ferric Sulphate and Sulphuric Acid, following established procedures ensuring that safety, regulatory, and quality requirements are met/exceeded.
  • Sample and test shipments according to procedure. Complete shipping documentation and certificates of analysis Accurately Scale all Shipments.
  • Accurately complete all documentation as required.
  • Accurately enter orders received into the site shipping schedule, ensuring all customer requirements are recorded.
  • Fill Drums & Totes as necessary, ensuring they meet regulatory and internal requirements prior to filling.
  • Truck driver liaison Aluminum Sulphate Manufacture on-specification liquid Aluminum Sulphate batches.
  • Fill Alum totes and drums as required Conduct product testing using approved procedures.
  • Inspect, approve, and unload aluminum tri-hydrate from hopper cars into silos, working to minimize demerge charges.
  • Compute daily production and enter computer Sulfuric Acid Inspect and receive Sulfuric Acid via tank truck.
  • Control tank levels to maintain daily inventories.
  • Load / Unload Sulphuric Acid received by rail following established procedures ensuring that safety, regulatory, and quality requirements are met/exceeded.
  • Monitor acid receipts Conduct quality assurance checks daily.
  • Fill acid totes and drums as necessary.
  • Ensure bills of lading are processed accurately Ferric Sulphate Unload Ferric Sulphate received by rail following established procedures ensuring that safety, regulatory, and quality requirements are met/exceeded.
  • Monitor Ferric Sulphate Receipts Fill Ferric Sulphate totes and drums as necessary.
  • Ensure bills of lading are processed accurately Site Maintenance Under the direction the Site Operator II or the Plant Manager, execute site maintenance activities; equipment preventative maintenance, minor pump and piping repairs, snow removal, house & grounds keeping, painting, etc.
  • Conduct contractor orientations / training.
  • Contractor liaison.
  • Records Maintain logbook with all pertinent Data for other operators.
  • Ensure all reports, binders; manuals and files, assigned are kept up to date.
 Work Conditions

  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee is occasionally required to climb stairs/ladders (including vertical) Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 kilograms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
  • Must be “fit for duty”.

Must be able to perform under the following conditions:  

  • Work in awkward or confining workspaces.
  • Work in elevated places.
  • Work in outdoor environment.
  • Work in noisy environment.
  • Work in areas that are dusty and have some odor from chemicals etc.
  • Safety is a job requirement.
  • Able to work in Adverse Weather Conditions.
  • Must be capable of spending long hours outdoors on your feet and occasionally work in protective clothing and equipment such as: acid suits, rain suits, Full faced respirator, face shields, hoods, etc.
  • Must be physically capable of spending long hours sitting in an office environment.
