Position: Operations Manager III

Primary Location: North Vancouver 

Shift: Salaried - Monday to Friday - 40 hours/week; Overtime needed as per business needs and training objectives.  

Reports to: Plant Manager 

Compensation: $155,000 - $175,000 + Benefits + Bonus

The CAD salary for this position is $155,000 - $175,000 + benefits + bonus. Salaried rates are determined by role, level, and location. The salaried rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Please note that the compensation details listed in the US roles postings reflect the hourly rate only, and do not include benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives such as overtime and shift premiums.

About this Role and About You

As a member of the plant management team, this role has shared accountability for ensuring reliable, cost-effective, profitable operations while meeting or exceeding Safety, Environmental, Responsible Care® and Quality standards.

 

The Operations Manager has a key role as part of the plant management team in advancing the performance, people, and systems of the operations team, and the unit overall, to these high standards. This will include networking and sharing best practices with other Chemtrade facilities, as well as from other industry leaders.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • 10+ years experience working within Chemical processing environments

  • 5+ years leadership experience within manufacturing facility

Competencies

  • Excellent Communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement projects a key asset
  • Become familiar with, and abide by, all Chemtrade Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures
  • Immediately report all ES&H incidents (injuries, near misses, releases)
  • Complete all required ES&H training in a timely fashion
  • Attend and actively participate in facility ES&H meetings and forums that will drive employee involvement
  • Participate in job safety analysis activities

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading all manufacturing employees in safely operating the plant, to meet production, quality, safety, and environmental goals.

  • Work with various departments at the site to ensure all manufacturing and site goals are being met.

  • Operate the plant within approved fixed and variable budget plans. Track period costs and material and energy usage. Reconcile spending and usage to plan. Assist in preparation of the plant’s period and capital plans.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and operating problems.

  • Ensure that the plant is operated within regulatory and permit limits, and in compliance with Chemtrade’s policies and procedures.

  • Ensure that employees are properly trained in these areas and the proper records and documentation are maintained.

  • Responsible for preparation of reports, tracking raw material and energy usage, production volumes, shipping, inventories, etc.

  • Actively work to develop personnel, to maintain a positive working environment, to resolve personnel conflicts, and to serve as sounding board for others.

Environmental, Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Exemplify and promote Chemtrade’s SAFE culture and EPIC values.
  • Communicate the Chemtrade Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures to department.
  • Execute strategies to ensure effectiveness and facility compliance with ES&H policies and procedures.
  • Strongly and visibly support the ES&H policies and procedures to plant personnel by initiating all communication and meetings with a consideration of ES&H activities, concerns and status.
  • Participate in ES&H committee meetings and other appropriate forums.
  • Incorporate ES&H performance metrics into all department personnel's performance reviews.
  • Encourage, support and highlight all ES&H rewards and recognition efforts and achievements.
  • Develop projects and budgetary requirements that will improve performance in achieving
  • ES&H metrics and objectives.
  • Incorporate funding for ES&H programs, projects and improvements into department budget.
  • Assist in tracking and communication of ES&H metrics and initiatives.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: 

  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
  • Employee must be physically capable of spending long hours outdoors and occasionally work in protected clothing and equipment.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders (including vertical).
  • Must be “fit for duty”.

Work Environment

Must be able to perform under the following conditions: 

  • Work in awkward or confining workspaces.
  • Work in elevated places.
  • Work in outdoor environment.
  • Work in noisy environment.
  • Work in areas that are dusty and have some odor from chemicals and etc.
  • Safety is a job requirement.
  • Able to work in Adverse Weather Conditions.
  • Must be capable of spending long hours outdoors on your feet and occasionally work in protective clothing and equipment such as: rain suits, face shields, hoods, and etc.
